President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has responded to criticism of his administration, insisting that his government is working to address hunger and poverty in Nigeria.
The president made the statement while defending his policies and efforts to improve the country’s economy, as many Nigerians continue to struggle with the rising cost of food, transportation and other basic needs.
According to Tinubu, the problems his administration is trying to solve did not begin with his government. He blamed the country’s economic difficulties on previous administrations and argued that his government was taking steps to correct long-standing problems.
His comments come at a time when many Nigerians are expressing frustration over the high prices of essential goods and the difficulty of meeting everyday expenses. For families with limited incomes, buying food, paying rent and covering transportation costs have become increasingly challenging.
Since taking office in May 2023, Tinubu has introduced major economic changes, including removing the petrol subsidy and changing the foreign exchange system. His administration says these decisions are necessary to improve government finances, attract investment and build a stronger economy over time.
However, the changes have also contributed to financial pressure on households and businesses, leading to continued public debate about their impact on ordinary Nigerians.
While government officials have highlighted various relief programmes and economic reforms, critics argue that more immediate support is needed to help struggling families cope with the rising cost of living.
Tinubu maintains that his administration is committed to improving the situation and reducing poverty.
As Nigerians await further results from the government’s policies, the central question remains whether these measures will translate into more affordable food, better living conditions and improved financial security for ordinary citizens.
