Nigerian gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey has stirred conversation after narrating an unusual personal experience in which he claimed a traditional spiritualist allegedly attempted to place him under a spell an attempt he says ultimately failed.
The cleric shared the account during a recent worship session, describing an encounter he said happened along an express road. According to him, the incident marked the second time the same individual had approached him under similar circumstances.
Nathaniel Bassey explained that the man knocked on his car window and began what he interpreted as an attempt at enchantment, allegedly trying to influence his actions. Rather than reacting with fear, he said he responded calmly and began declaring Bible verses affirming divine protection.
He recalled citing scriptural passages such as “Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm,” adding that he remained composed while the man appeared to wait for the supposed spell to take effect. Bassey said he also referenced another biblical verse stating that no enchantment or divination could prevail against God’s people, reinforcing his belief that the attempt would not succeed.
According to the pastor, he eventually stepped out of his vehicle and firmly instructed the man to leave the scene. Reflecting on the incident, he noted that he later wished he had detained the individual until law enforcement could intervene.
Bassey emphasized that his intention in sharing the story was not to glorify evil or dramatize the encounter, but rather to underscore what he described as the reality of spiritual challenges and the importance of faith. He maintained that believers should remain steadfast while acknowledging that troubling situations can exist in the world.
The account has since generated discussion among followers and observers, with reactions ranging from strong support of his faith perspective to broader conversations about spirituality, belief, and personal experiences in contemporary society.
