A fresh wave of conversation about marriage, accountability and gender roles has erupted online after Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo publicly asserted that men are largely responsible for most failed marriages a statement that has quickly divided opinion across social media.

The actress shared her views in a recent post on Instagram, where she argued that the male gender contributes significantly to the collapse of many unions. According to her, issues such as neglect, emotional mistreatment, betrayal and infidelity are recurring factors she believes often originate from men.
In the post, Ogbodo wrote that “men contribute 95 per cent in failed marriages,” adding that many relationships break down because some men neglect, cheat on, emotionally harm, or otherwise devalue their spouses. She further suggested that a lack of accountability within relationships and in society more broadly tends to reinforce these patterns.
Her remarks have triggered mixed reactions online. While some individuals agreed with her perspective and cited similar experiences or observations, others strongly disagreed, arguing that marital breakdowns are usually complex and involve both partners rather than one gender alone.
Ogbodo’s personal history has also drawn attention in the discussion. The actress is currently in her second marriage, having tied the knot with her partner, Boby Maris, in October 2023. Her previous marriage to Norway-based football agent Ato Ubby, contracted in 2013, ended less than a year later.
The debate surrounding her comments continues to unfold, reflecting broader conversations about responsibility, communication and expectations within modern relationships issues that remain deeply personal yet widely discussed in public discourse.
