Abuja, Nigeria – Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced the approval of N1.1 billion in compensation for property owners affected by the ongoing construction of the Airport Road to Kuje expressway.
During an inspection of the project on Tuesday, Wike assessed 13 structures marked for demolition along the road corridor. Speaking on the development, the minister stated, “I have come here to see for myself the report on the valuation of what I was supposed to pay. When I got the files for approval, I said, look, it would be proper for me to see for myself the kind of structures for which I was going to pay.”
He emphasized the urgency of the compensation to avoid delays in the six-lane dual carriageway project, adding, “I will immediately approve the amount so that the Federal Capital Development Authority can start paying the compensation. I am going to make the N1.1 billion available so that the contractor will not find any excuse to delay the project.”
Progress on Other Key Projects
In addition to the expressway project, Wike inspected the ongoing construction of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal and its feeder road. He expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the court project is expected to be completed by September 2025.
The feeder road, known as Asuquo Okon Road (Road CN8), connects Obafemi Awolowo Way (Arterial Road N5) to Olusegun Obasanjo Way (Arterial Road N1) and includes adjoining roads in the Daki Biyu District. It is slated for completion by May 2025.
The minister praised the contractors for their efforts, saying, “I am very impressed with what we saw this afternoon. It is progressing as expected. By the grace of God, we believe that in September 2025 the contractor will have handed over the structure.”
These projects are part of Wike’s commitment to improving infrastructure within the FCT, ensuring timely delivery, and addressing the needs of residents and commuters in the region.
