Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, has joined the rest of the country to mark the National Children’s Day ahead of the celebration coming up May 27, 2022, as she organised a press briefing to address the Media on activities slated for the special day.
She said the 2022 National Children’sDay celebration is to be carried out by the Federal and States Ministries of Women Affairs across the 36 States, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and other relevant stakeholders.
The Women Affairs minister said 27th May every year is set aside by the Nigerian Government to honour her children in groups, as critical stakeholders in National Development.
“The Celebration dates back to 1964 when it was first declared as a holiday for children and were granted holiday as part of Government concern for promoting social wellbeing in the country. The Day marks the celebration of children, raise awareness on issues affecting their wellbeing and appreciate their future socio-economic value to the development of a nation.” She said.
Women Affairs Minister Harps on Protecting Children
According to Pauline Tallen, this year’s theme is “Strengthening Supportive Systems for the Protection of the Nigerian Child: A Wake up call,” adding that the theme resonates with emerging issues and concerns that affect and impact the wellbeing and safety of our children and the urgent need to redouble our collective efforts in the protection of the Nigerian Child from all forms of violence and abuse.
As Parents, she said Families, Policy Makers, Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, Traditional Rulers, Religious leaders, Development partners and the Donor Community, are all stakeholders in addressing the disturbing trend of violence against children in Nigeria and to strengthen collaboration towards working out strategies to reverse this ugly trend in order to secure a brighter future for the Nigerian Child.
