Nigerian Governors Who Tested Positive For COVID-19
The Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, announced that he tested positive for Coronavirus, COVID-19, making him the 7th Nigerian Governor to have tested positive for the virus.
In a tweet, the Governor disclosed that his third COVID-19 test result came back positive on Tuesday.
However, Fayemi said he has decided to self-isolate and receive care from his medical team adding that he will delegate critical tasks to his Deputy.
The tweet reads “I took my third Covid-19 test yesterday and it came back positive. I’m generally ok and I’m already self-isolating at home and receiving the best of care from my medical team. I’m delegating critical tasks to my Deputy but will continue routine duty from home.”
Earlier, on Saturday, July 4, his Ebonyi State counterpart, David Umahi had announced that he tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El- Rufai was the first governor confirmed to have been infected and recovered from the virus in April.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, was also infected in March and was reported to have recovered on the 9th of April.
You will also recall that the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, announced that he tested positive on 30th, March 2020 and his recovery was reported on the 5th of April.
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, tested positive on June 30th.
Delta’s Ifeanyi Okowa announced that he and his wife had tested positive on July 1.
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom announced that his wife, Mrs Eunice Ortom, their son, and some of the wife’s aides had tested positive for COVID-19.
As at the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has pegged the total number of confirmed Coronavirus cases in the country at 37,801.
The agency confirmed that 15,677 persons have been discharged, while 805 deaths have been recorded.According to a tweet by the agency, Nigeria on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, reported 576 new cases of COVID19.
In the tweet, NCDC stated that out of the new cases, Lagos reported 88, Kwara-87, FCT-82, Plateau-62, Ondo-39 and Enugu-28.
Others include Oyo-26, Taraba-24, Kaduna-20, Ebonyi-20, Edo-17, Cross River-16, Kano-14, Rivers-11, Ogun-10, Delta-9, Nasarawa-8, Osun-8, Katsina-3, Imo-2, Kebbi-1 and Borno-1 reported one new case.
