Nigeria is a country that continues to churn out multiple musical talents every year. This post will discuss 5 new artists currently making waves in 2019.
Zlatan Ibile
“Kapaichumarimarichopaco” is a tag formed by Zlatan Ibile, the person to whom the ‘Zanku’ credit goes, the new dance that has rocked the year. Zlatan has also cleverly made a song (“Zanku (Leg Work)”) to go with the move, which is boosting his popularity. The rapper’s features on “Able God” and “Jogor” has led to higher-profile collaborations with Davido (“Bum Bum”) and Burna Boy (Killin Dem”), which is introducing the charismatic talent to a wider audience. Earlier this year, Zlatan was on a club tour across cities that include London, Cyprus, Kenya, Dubai and Istanbul, in an effort to capitalize on his new found fame.
Fireboy DML
The YBNL signed artists took us all by surprise. Shortly after he was signed to Olamide’s record label a few weeks back, Fireboy dropped, Jealous, a single that has had everyone reeling in joy ever since. And just recently, with the letting the fire of “Jealous” cool off, he has released yet another banger, “What If I Say”.
Rema
Rema started off trending all over social media. With males and females alike crooning over his musical skills, his hair and his general looks. The 19-year old signed in to a new imprint under Mavin Records called Jonzing World. His first hit song “Iron Man” was well-received which gave way to his even most recent successful song, “Dumebi”.
Lady Donli
Since 2017, Lady Donli’s rise to prominence in the industry has been pretty slow, but with the amount of attention she’s been getting this year, it is very likely that 2019 is the year she finally receives the accolades she deserves. “Cash”, her most recent song is already making the rounds.
Larry Gaga
Larry Gaga has a mysterious aura about him. Very little is known besides the fact that he has been the man behind a number of hit songs for quite some time now. He’s found a way to feature top artists in the industry. “Iworiwo” with 2Baba, “Baba Nla” with Wizkid, “Doe” with Davido and most recently, “Low” with Wizkid yet again. It’s only safe to say he’s on to big things this year.
