Barely 12 hours after the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan called for a stiffer penalty for rape, another girl, Barakat Bello has been raped and murdered in Ibadan.
The news about Barakat surfaced on the internet on Wednesday, June 3 and it was gathered that she was alone at her father’s home on Tuesday when some men raped and killed.
According to sources, the incident happened in Akinyele Local Government area of Ibadan, Oyo state.
The 18-year-old girl was a year 1 student in Federal college of animal health and production before she falls victim of rape in Ibadan.

Many Twitter users have condemned the incident describing it as very unfortunate and disturbing given the recent news about Uwa Omozuwa, who was raped and murdered in a church in Benin city, Edo state.
You will recall that a few days ago, there was a report about how eleven men were arrested for raping an eleven-year-old girl in Jigawa State.
Since the news about the rape and murder of Uwa, many Nigerians have charged the government to come up with measures that will protect the girl child and women from being raped.
Also, on Tuesday, the Senate observed a minute silence for Tina Ezekwe and Uwa and all those who have lost their lives from such brutality and rape.
In a statement signed by the Special Assistant (Press) to President of the Senate, Ezrel Tabiowo, the Upper Chamber urged the Federal Government to stage a campaign against the increasing brutality and rape of the girl child.
It further called on the relevant security authorities to evolve proactive measures to checkmate rape cases and brutality in the country.
