NCC Assures Nigerians of Zero Call Tariff Hike

Share

Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, recently assured Nigerians that so far, there has not been any message or call tariff hike by companies providing network service.

The Mobile Network Operators, MNOs, earlier made complaints of how challenging it has become managing their equipment and facilities amidst the rise in terrorists’ activities, among other financial and economic crippling setbacks.

However, the commission allayed the fears of telecoms subscribers over the recent agitation by mobile network operators for tariff increase, saying it requires empirical studies.

What NCC Said:

The commission hinted in a Press Release on Saturday, that it has taken notes of the fears being expressed by subscribers on the agitation made by MNOs under the auspices of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, ALTON, citing high cost of running their operations as the major reason for their proposed tariff hike, as contained in a letter to the Commission.

Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, the commission’s Director, Public Affairs, said consistent with international best practice and established regulatory procedures, the commission ensures its regulatory activities are guided by regular cost-based and empirical studies to determine appropriate cost (upper and floor price) within which service providers are allowed to charge their subscribers for services delivered.
