Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has come out to say his side can beat German top side Bayern Munich and advance to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League. Barcelona’s defeat and Benfica victory will mean they are out of the competition to the Europa League. The manager recognises it’s all or nothing in tonight’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich and said his team is well able to win the game.
Barcelona needs to defeat Bayern Munich, who has not lost any game in the competition’s group stage this season, but Xavi doesn’t believe they’ll need a miracle to do, so his team is a good side, he believes. The Blaugrana’s task is undoubtedly a big one as the German champions have looked unstoppable in Europe this season, but the Catalan coach believes his team can beat anyone.
According to Xavi, he said: “It’s in our own hands, and we’ll give it everything we’ve got. After the game, we’ll see.” He also said: “I don’t see it as a miracle. It’s one game, and we can beat any opponent.” The former Barca player is aware that Bayern isn’t just any opponent, and Barcelona will have to be at their best to get anything in the Allianz Arena.
He said: “We have to be patient. This [process] isn’t overnight. [On Wednesday] we have a test against an opponent who has been better than us in our last meetings.”
