Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has confirmed he has spoken with Brazilian winger Willian over a potential exit from the club this summer. The former Chelsea player has been linked with a possible move to Brazilian side Corinthians in recent weeks.
Arsenal is looking to get the former Chelsea player off their wage bill, and he is expected to leave for free if a transfer is agreed before the transfer window closes on August 31. Mikel Arteta said: “We are having some conversations with him and the agent, and we are evaluating the position that we are in at the moment.”
Arsenal started the league on a very poor note as they are yet to register their first goal or win in the 2021/22 English Premier League season. They lost newcomers Brentford 2-0 in the opening game before losing to Chelsea in Matchday 2. Arsenal only recorded their first win in their game against West Brom which was their first Carabao Cup clash.
They will be playing against defending champions Manchester City on Saturday, and it is most likely he will not be in the game against City. The head coach also said: “I don’t know [why it hasn’t worked out for him here”. “At the moment, he is an Arsenal player, and we are trying to get the best out of him while he is here. Anything different is just things that can happen.”
