United thrash Club Brugge
Manchester United last night showed their class in the round of 32 Europa League second leg game against Club Brugge. United who had earlier played out a 1-1 draw with the Belgium side welcomed them to the theatre of Dreams last night for the return leg.
The game came with much expectations and January signing Odion Ighalo had his first start for in the United jersey. Club Bruges brought thousands of noisy fans to Old Trafford to help with a good atmosphere but Unforturnately their players could not match their efforts and created nothing of note.
Manchester United was in charge of the game, having the most shots on targets and corner kicks. Things became worse for the visitors as defender Simon Deli received a straight red to reduce the team to just ten men in first 23 minute of the game.
The opener came for Manchester United through a penalty which new signing Bruno Fernandes stepped up to play. The Portuguese did well to register his second goal for the Red Devils as he sent the goalie to the wrong direction and put his team in front in the 27th minute.
Ole Gunnar Soljskear’s troops kept the pressure coming as another new signing Odion Ighalo found the back of the net in the 34th minute from Juan Mata’s pass. Four minutes before the half time whistle was blown Scott McTominay announced his return with a goal just four minutes before the half time.
United headed into the first half break with three points already assured with their three goals advantage. Bruno Fernandes won the man of the match award but another player who did well in the match is Brazilian Fred who scored two goals with an assist.
Fred scored in the 82nd and 90th minute respectively to make the scores 5. The scores is the the scond highest goals scored without conceding for Manchester United since the departure of sir Alex Ferguson. The Red Devils now wait for the next stage which is the round of 16 and they await the draws for the last 16 stage which is on Friday by 12:00 GMT.
