Argentine top side Boca Junior where former Manchester United player Marcus Rojo plays for had six of their players and officials charged after they clashed with Brazilian police following their Copa Libertadores exit to Atletico Mineiro. The Argentine side, who went out on penalties after two goalless games, were furious at a goal in each leg being ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee.
There were clashes in the tunnel and dressing rooms after the second leg of the last-16 tie at Brazil’s Atletico. Brazilian police had to use pepper spray on the Boca Junior players and officials. On Tuesday, the day after the second leg, a police statement said two of the Boca camp were charged with damaging property and released after paying 3000 reais (£421) bail each.
Also, four of Boca Junior players were charged with causing bodily harm and abusing authorities. They were released after “formally agreeing to appear before a judge” at a future date. Atletico released a statement saying their club president had paid the bail money because Boca Junior players did not have enough cash on them.
The names of the six players that were charged and later released were not named. Argentine who won the recent Copa America in Brazil said their authorities have notified the players that they must quarantine for at least seven days on their return.
