Amid reactions trailing the abduction of students and Staff of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State, famous Islamic scholar Sheikh Abubakar Gumi has demanded blanket amnesty for bandits.
Gumi asked the Nigerian government to give repentant bandits amnesty to help tackle the country’s current security situation.
The scholar made the demand after visiting the camp of some bandits operating in Niger State.
He asked the Federal government to deal with any bandit who failed to disengage from banditry after the amnesty must have been granted.
He explained that some of the bandits’ complaints are that they were being killed and maimed unjustly,
According to him, there is a positive response from the bandits holding the Kagara school students and their staff captive, though he did not state if the students had been released.
You will recall that some bandits recently gained access to Government Science College, Kagara, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State and abducted students, teachers, and others.
The school principal who escaped from the attack said the gunmen came in military uniform and shot sporadically into the air.
Everyevery.ng had reported that Gumi levelled serious allegations against the Nigerian Army, noting that the military does not want terrorism to end because they benefit from it.
Gumi opined that some top military officials want insecurity to continue because of the huge funds allocated for tackling it.
He further revealed that the bandits were ready to drop their arms and embrace peace if the government could provide schools, hospitals and water for them.
