Senate calls on Buhari, demand state of emergency

The Senate calls on Buhari, asking the President to declare a state of emergency on the increasing levels of insecurity in the country.

The lawmakers also demanded that the Buhari led administration looks into implementing the various recommendations of the Senate on how the issue of insecurity should be addressed in Nigeria.

Ahmad Lawan, Senate President, pointed out that the frequent incidents of abduction of students would counter the positive results that have been achieved in school enrollment over a period of years in the North.

These resolutions were reached by the Senate after a motion on a matter of urgent public importance was moved by Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, the Senator representing Niger East.

Bashing the government, the Senator representing Niger South, Birma Enagi, said the Federal Government is “incompetent” in dealing with the menace of insecurity in the country.
