Security Operatives Arrest 20 Suspected Terrorists In Abuja

Given intelligence reports that terrorists had set up camps in Abuja, Nasarawa and Kogi State, police and other security forces have arrested over 20 Ansaru Islamist terrorists and their Fulani militia collaborators at their various camps in the FCT.

The insurgents, Originally known as the Vanguards for the Protection of Muslims in Black Africa were reportedly planning to attack public places, including shopping plazas and worship centres in Abuja.

It was gathered that the suspected terrorists, who were currently undergoing interrogation had claimed responsibility for the attack on the convoy of the Emir of Potiskum, Umar Bubaram, in Kaduna in January.

Security operatives had through intelligence gathering discovered that the Ansaru terrorists were raising money to fund their terror campaigns by engaging in kidnapping for ransom in Abuja.

However, the Defence Headquarters said the Armed Forces and other security agencies would ensure effective surveillance of the FCT and other states of the country.

You will recall that Everyevery.ng had reported that the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. John Enenche had on Sunday assured Nigerians that preventive intelligence was on ground to put an end to the planned attacks (Read more here).

Also, the Spokesman of the Abuja Police Command, Anjuguri Manza has reassured the general public that the command has put in place measures to beef up security in Abuja.
