Athletic Bilbao booked their place in the final of the 2021 Spanish Super Cup with Barcelona after beating Real Madrid 2-1. Athletic Bilbao faced the defending champions at the Santiago Bernabeu and was able to come out victorious.
The Spanish Super Cup final will now be between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona. Bilbao’s forward Raul Garcia scored twice for his side to give them the win. Garcia put the visitors in front in the first 18 minutes of the game.
He latched on to a through pass and slots in the all beyond Real Madrid goalkeeper’s reach. He scored his second from the penalty spot seven minutes after the first goal was scored. For Real Madrid, Karim Benzema achieved a late goal, but it was only a consolation goal as Raul’s first-half brace were enough to give the visitors the lead.
Benzema scored the goal with just 17 minutes left to play. The French striker then had another goal disallowed for offside, but Athletic held on for the win.
Barcelona beat Real Sociedad in a penalty shootout on Wednesday to book their place in the Spanish Super Cup. The final will take place on Sunday in Seville.
