Spanish giants Real Madrid started 2022 on a very sad note after losing 1-0 to struggling La Liga side Getafe. Enel Unal’s nine minutes goal was enough to give the home side a comfortable three points to start 2022 on a winning note.

Real Madrid Suffer First Loss in 2022

Real Madrid missed the chance to open up an 11-point lead at the top of La Liga as they lost to Getafe. Enes Unal scored the only goal after just nine minutes when he robbed Eder Militao of possession inside Real Madrid’s penalty area. Luka Modric was the player that came closequalizer the equalizer, striking the crossbar with a powerful drive.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side has played two games more than closest challengers Sevilla, who will play Cadiz later today Monday. Real dominated the first half but only forced one save from Getafe goalkeeper David Soria. The goalkeeper was very good in the goal post as he was able to stop Modric’s long-range drive past the far post.

The Croatian midfielder also struck the woodwork with a thunderous left-footed shot from the edge of the Getafe penalty area, while Toni Kroos fired wide from a promising position.

Real Madrid increased the pressure in the second half and went close to salvaging a point through Brazilian playmaker Casemiro, but the midfielder’s sweetly struck effort was palmed to safety by Getafe goalkeeper Scoria.
