Real Madrid presidential candidate, Enrique Riquelme, has, quite surprisingly, threatened to sack coach Zinedine Zidane and replace him with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Riquelme is expected to challenge Florentino Perez at this summer’s presidential elections at the club.
He insisted that he prefer to have Liverpool manager Klopp or club legend Raul ahead of Zidane in the hot seat.
Speaking to El Partidazo de COPE, he spoke of how he personally likes Klopp a lot and how Raul is doing well. In his words, Zidane “would not” be his coach.
Klopp, whose Liverpool side face Real in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday night, has a contract at Anfield until 2024. While Raul, who scored 324 goals in 16 years at the LaLiga giants, manages Real’s reserve team after stepping into coaching in 2018.
The significance of Riquelme’s statements might only be brought to the fore if he becomes President of the Spanish giants.
