As Nigerians keep suggesting the solution to banditry and kidnapping in the country, an Osun monarch, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has proposed death penalty for bandits and others threatening the security of Nigeria.
While speaking at a farmer-herder summit, the Oluwo of Iwo stated the need to sentence bandits and kidnappers to death by hanging, adding that no Human Rights advocate should kick against such punishment.
According to the Monarch, the government must begin to kill corrupt people irrespective of their ethnicity. He noted that there would be anarchy if the security forces cannot enforce the law.
However, he charged herders in Iwo local government of Osun state to cooperate with him to ensure that criminals perpetrating abductions and killings in the local government get arrested.
The Oluwo, who said Fulani should come and stay in Iwo, advised the herders to also work with the chiefs and security agencies to identify the criminals among them.
He called for the recruitment of more police officers and community policing, noting that such a move would significantly solve security challenges.
Meanwhile, you will recall that a prominent Ifa Priest, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon, recently warned the Oluwo of Iwo to desist from ridiculing Yoruba tradition to avoid facing the consequences.
Elebuibon and other Traditional practitioners under the aegis of Isokan Orunmila stated that the Oluwo lacks the proper cultural orientation of a Yoruba traditional ruler.
During a one-day Ifa Unity Conference held in Osogbo, Elebuibon said the Oluwo is not an example of a proper Yoruba traditional ruler because he emerged as a Monarch without appropriate consultation.
According to the Ifa priest, the failure to consult Ifa is a significant setback and led to a vacuum in Iwo traditional institution.
