Ogun Assembly Drama Takes New Twist

Honourable Dare Kadiri, the Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has been impeached for alleged gross misconduct.

The impeached Lawmaker, who represents Ijebu North Constituency 2 at the Assembly was accused of insubordination to the Speaker’s Office through un-authorised self-approval of expenditure.

He allegedly involved an external body in the House’s affairs without exploring an internal mechanism for the amicable resolution of issues.

Other allegations levelled against him include office abuse, a threat to lives and properties and attempted murder committed in his constituency.

The Speaker, Ogun Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo had constituted a committee to investigate his deputy. Meanwhile, in its report, the committee found Mr Kadiri guilty of gross misconduct, hence, he was impeached.

Reacting to his purported impeachment, Honourable Kadiri declared his impeachment as illegal, saying he remains the Deputy speaker.

The Lawmaker said he had initiated consultation with his lawyers to address the impeachment as he urged his supporters to remain calm.

Kadiri further described the impeachment as grossly unconstitutional and illegal. However, he reiterated his commitment to the ideals of a functional legislature and good governance.

Earlier, Honourable Kadiri had blamed the Secretary to the Ogun State Government (SSG), Tokunbo Talabi, for his arrest, adding that the SSG was making secret moves to impeach him from office.

Everyevery.ng gathered that the embattled Lawmaker was arrested and detained at the Ogun Police headquarters over an alleged assault.

According to the state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, Kadiri recently led thugs to some politicians’ houses.
