Northern Elders Ask Buhari To Sack Service Chiefs

A few hours after Traditional rulers in the Northern region condemned the killings in Southern Kaduna and some other parts of the region, members of the Coalition of North-Central Elders have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the service chiefs now.

While expressing concerns over the increasing level of attacks in various parts in the North, the elders said themselves and several other Nigerians, voted President Buhari into office in 2015 and 2019 because of his experience as a military head of state.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Usman Bida, the coalition added that they expect Buhari to prosecute the war against insecurity in the country.

They expressed worry that no part of the North-Central that is not experiencing terrorist attacks adding that Nigerians have become tired of the government’s excuses when it comes to matters of insecurity.

The coalition demanded the immediate restructuring of the current security architecture in the country with the sacking of the service chiefs as the first steps.

According to the coalition, the continued retention of the service chiefs for the last five years running is totally against the wishes of Nigerians.

The elders, who reiterated their support for the Buhari-led administration, however, stressed that keeping the service chiefs has caused a lot of low morale and bad work zeal in the entire Armed Forces.
