Nollywood Veteran Actor, Prof. Ayobami Akinwale Is Dead

Nigerian actor and academician Professor Ayobami Akinwale has been reported dead. He died after a brief illness on Sunday, September 13, 2020.

Prof. Ayobami Akinwale began his acting career in the 1970s featuring in television and drama productions. He has since directed many movies and played some important roles in some top Nollywood movies.

He was born in Ibadan, Oyo State and attended high school as well as the university in his place of birth (Methodist High School and University of Ibadan).

The veteran actor began his academic career at The Polytechnic Ibadan, as a lecturer. Until his death, he was a Professor in the Department of Performing Arts at the University of Ilorin. He also doubled as the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Culture of University of Ilorin.

Prof. Akinwale was also the Chairman of Oyo State Council for Arts and Culture. He was a judge on several cultural festivals across Nigeria.

He starred in Yoruba Nollywood movies such as ‘Sango’, ‘Ladepo Omo Adanwo’ and ‘Iranse Aje’. The veteran actor won the Best Indigenous actor award at the 4th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
