Nigerian Government Holds Emergency Meeting

As part of efforts to prevent the proposed industrial action announced by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, the Nigerian government has disclosed a plan to hold an emergency meeting with the union.

According to Ben Bem Goong, the Ministry of Education spokesman, the emergency meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 6.

Goong stated that the meeting would be held at the Education ministry headquarters in Abuja, where Adamu Adamu, the education minister, would meet with ASUP members.

Everyevery.ng gathered that ASUP announced a plan to embark on an industrial strike following the failure to implement agreements reached with the ASUP.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Resident Doctors is currently on strike as President Muhammadu Buhari vacations in London.

Also, civil servants in Abuja are set for a face-off with the federal government as various civil service unions planned to go on strike.

The unions, Joint Unions Action Committee in the Federal Capital Territory Administration and Federal Capital Development Authority announced that they were going on strike over the non-implementation of the FCT Civil Service Commission Act.
