Nigeria has stacked the largest pyramid consisting of rice in Africa, a project of the Central Bank, in partnership with the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, RIFAN.

The occasion happened in Abuja at an event themed, ‘Unveiling of the FCT Mega Rice Pyramid,’ where President Muhamadu Buhari was in attendance to witness the launching of the rice pyramid.

In his address, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, explained that the project was meant to alleviate the commodity’s scarcity and help reduce the purchase cost in the country.

Emefiele noted that it wasn’t an easy feat to come by, stressing that the farmers association and their members worked tirelessly to make the dream come to fruition.

He pointed out that despite the insecurity challenges encountered by farmers in the various parts where the rice was grown, they prevailed and worked relentlessly.

The Apex Bank Governor prayed that this feat would make rice available and affordable to the poor masses and pointed out that the project doesn’t involve any middle man responsible for hoarding food produce and consequently hiking prices.
