Farmers warn of Food Scarcity in 2021

There’s no escaping what farmers have described as imminent food scarcity in 2021, owing to the blunders in Government’s decision towards the Agricultural Sector.

The Agriculturists spoke under the auspices of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, during the Flag-Off Event marking the Sales of Fertilizer for the 2021 Cropping Season in Niger State.

The event took off on Tuesday and highlighted areas affecting farmers’ productiveness to include the Government’s decision to withdraw subsidy from farm inputs. Other factors identified are the absence of a means to access farmer’s loans/other related facilities and insecurity at the top of the list.

Stressing on the point, the Chairman, AFAN, Niger State Chapter, Alhaji Galadima, said farmers could only be productive this year if the Federal Government will re-introduce the subsidy on fertilizer plus other related farm requirements.

Another notable point Galadima made was for the authorities to check the excesses of saboteurs that go the extreme to reduce the quality of fertilizers before pushing into the markets.

Recorded as an achievement at the event was fixing the price for a 50kg bag of fertilizer at N8,000 by the Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello, represented by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso.
