Man Murder Wife By Using Cobra, Twenty-seven-year – old Sooraj was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife in her room with the help of a cobra, following an initial failed attempt with a viper.
The phone records showed Sooraj, had been in contact with serpent handlers and had also watched snake videos on the internet, according to police in the southern state of Kerala, India.
In March, Sooraj got hold of a highly venomous viper from Russell and released it into her bedroom. The viper bit his wife Uthra, and left her for nearly two months in hospital, police official Ashok Kumar said.
She moved into her parents ‘ house to recover after she was discharged earlier this month.
Sooraj made another life attempt while she was with her parents. He got a cobra from a snake dealer, and threw it at his wife who was sleeping.
Police statement said: “Sooraj remained as if nothing had happened in the same room as Uthra
“He was going about his morning routine the next day when he was alerted by Uthra’s mother’s screams.” It added: “They took her to the hospital where the doctor said she had died.”
Uthra ‘s parents became suspect when Sooraj tried to gain possession of his wife’s property just days after her death, according to MonoramaOnline.
She was from an affluent family, but Sooraj, who had been working in a private bank, was not doing so well financially.
Police said a large dowry of nearly 100 gold coins, a new car and some 500,000 rupees (around $20,000) in cash had involved the marriage.
“Sooraj feared that divorcing Uthra would mean giving back all the dowry. That’s when he decided to kill her,” the police statement said.The snake provider was also arrested, the statement added.
