Kubwa Market Demolition: Traders, Shop Owners Lament Over Losses

Share

The Kubwa market demolition that took place yesterday had traders, marketers, shop owners, among other stakeholders, in pain and sorrow as many complained that the exercise was too sudden.

The levelling of shops and other similar structures occurred due to the kerosene-laden tank that exploded a couple of days back before the resolve by the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA Authorities to bring down illegally mounted buildings.

At the scene of the incident, everyevery.ng correspondent noticed that some shop owners still had their goods in when the sad event took place.

Others struggled to salvage what was left in the rubbles as the FCTA officials continued their activities because they initially dropped a two-day notice for the traders to evacuate.

FCTA Clears 100 Shops in Kubwa Market Demolition

On Wednesday, FCTA ministerial committee on city sanitation issued a statement saying they demolished about 100 illegal shops in Kubwa, Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.

Chairman of the committee, Ikharo Attah, said he had the backing of FCT Ministers, both Malam Muhammad Bello and Dr Ramatu to carry out the clean-up exercise, to prevent further life and safety threatening incidents.
