Otobo and Olamigoke, the Policemen In Custody
Two policemen are now in custody for the death of a Lagos teenager, Tina Ezekwe, said to have been shot and killed by the bullet from the gun of a trigger -happy police officer.
The two policemen identified as Otobo and Olamigoke from Bariga Police Division seem to be in deep trouble as Nigerians cry for justice to be done over the extrajudicial killing.
According to report the life of Tina was cut short by the two policemen who were trying to arrest a Lagos State bus driver who they said violated the nationwide curfew imposed by the Federal Government.
Tina unfortunately became a victim of the incident because she was reportedly standing by the roadside when the policemen were trying to make the arrest.
Tina who was standing by the roadside was said to have been shot alongside the bus driver and were both rushed to the hospital.
Outrage started over the issue after a video recording showing Tina being rushed to the hospital flooded the whole social media platforms, especially Twitter and #JusticeForTina began to trend.
While commenting on the shooting of the bus driver and the killing of Tina in a press statement, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Bala Elkana explained that the incident was regrettable, stressing that the two victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment by the police officers.
“ The bullet pierced through the upper side of her left lap. She was rushed to hospital by a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer. The battle to save her lasted for two days; she, however died on May 28, 2020, around 9:29pm while on admission. The second person is in a stable condition.
He added that the two policemen involved in the case have been taken in for internal disciplinary proceedings and the force will not hesitate to charge them to court if found guilty of the charges.
Elkana added that the State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu has instructed that a thorough investigation be carried out to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing of Tina and shooting of the bus driver.
Despite the arrest of the two policemen, Twitter users have not stopped trending #JusticeForTina, as an identification for the call for justice over Tina’s killing.
