IGP Launches Operation Restore Peace

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Alkali Baba, has launched a new unique operational action plan code-named Operation Restore Peace to stabilise security order in the South-East region.

The IGP, while speaking at the Michael Okpara Square, said the Operation restore peace has become necessary to engender all-inclusive security actions to roll back the murderous attacks in the region.

Baba noted that the Operation would also go against other threats to law and order occasioned by the separatist agenda promoted by the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Eastern Security Network.

The IGP observed that the group’s activities in the South-East region had assumed an armed dimension. He accused the groups of attacking personnel and assets of the Nigeria Police, Military and other security agencies.

Meanwhile, the Police boss said the Nigeria Police Force would replicate the Operation in other parts of the country to address peculiar crimes including banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism.

Baba revealed that the police force would collaborate with the Armed Forces, the intelligence community and other sister security agencies.

He opined that the personnel deployed for the Operation had been charged to be ruthless with criminal elements operating under any guise whatsoever who may attempt to test the people’s collective will.
