Hushpuppi: Court Confirms Judgement Day

Nigerian Instagram celebrity Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, wait for a court verdict over money laundering and cybercrime charge is almost over.

The United States Attorney’s office for the Central District of California, Los Angeles, has confirmed that Hushpuppi will be sentenced on September 21, 2022.

Abbas’ sentence was initially moved from February 14 to July 11 since his arrest in June 2022 and conviction in 2021.

Thom Mrozek, a court official, said, “Hushpuppi, who had pleaded guilty to the alleged $1.1m fraud last year, is currently scheduled to be sentenced by a federal judge in Los Angeles on September 21.”

The former Instagram sensation was arrested in his live-in hotel in Dubai in June 2020 by the International Police (Interpol) and then transferred to the United States.

The 39-year-old, who has pleaded guilty to money laundering, was accused of duping people across different continents to the tune of millions in dollars and could face up to 20 years of prison.
