Governor Oyetola Declares 24Hrs Curfew

The Osun State government has declared a 24-Hours curfew in Irepodun and Orolu Local Government Areas of the State.

Prince Wole Oyebamiji, the Secretary to the Osun State Government said the curfew was because of the unrest between Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities on Saturday, February 6.

According to Oyebamiji, the declaration of curfew became necessary to douse tension in the troubled area. He said the curfew would subsist until further notice.

He also revealed that Governor Oyetola had ordered the immediate deployment of armed police officers to restore law and order in the area.

Oyebamiji noted that Oyetola had ordered security operatives to arrest and prosecute any person found violating the curfew.

Speaking further, the SSG said Governor Oyetola considered the declaration of curfew as the way to go as a responsible and responsive government that took the sacred oath to protect its citizens’ lives and property.

However, the state government enjoined all citizens and residents of the affected LGAs to comply with this directive.

Everyevery.ng gathered that any person found contravening the curfew shall be made to face the wrath of the law. Also, the state government advised all citizens to be peaceful and be law-abiding.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command’s Image maker, SP Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the incident said no life was lost during the communal clash.

Opalola said that two persons sustained gunshot injuries during the unrest caused by a land dispute in the state.

The Police image maker explained that some Erin-Osun community youths were dissatisfied over the ceding of parts of their territory to Ilobu, during the state enumeration area demarcation.
