Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom
A few days after the Benue State Governor’s convoy got attacked, a Fulani group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The group identified as Fulani National Movement said it was responsible for the attack on the convoy of Governor Samuel Ortom while he was returning from his farm (read more here).
In a statement signed by Umar Shehu, the group said it plotted the attack to kill Ortom for using his resources to destruct the Fulani inheritance. Shehu noted that the group only had a slight setback in executing the assassination.
The Fulani group further stated that it carried out the attempted assassination on behalf of millions of Fulani people in fifteen countries worldwide.
Shehu boasted that it would soon accomplish its task of killing Governor Ortom and other southern governors for kicking against the rural grazing area.
The group accused Ortom of leading the campaign against Fulani interests in the North, adding that it would carry out attacks on strategic human and material assets of states and non-state groups or individuals known for their anti-Fulani campaigns in the next few months.
Earlier, Ortom confirmed that some gunmen attempted to attack his convoy on his way from his farm along Gboko road.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari had called for an open investigation into the attack, noting that those responsible should be arrested and prosecuted.
Buhari described the attack on the convoy of Governor Ortom as unacceptable. Everyevery.ng gathered that the police have commenced an investigation into the attack.
