The Minister of State for power, Mr Goddy Jedy-Agba has disclosed that the Federal Government would create 250,000 jobs through the Solar Power Naija scheme which was launched on Tuesday.
According to the Minister, the scheme targets the provision of five million connections that will benefit 25 million Nigerians. He added that the programme is to address one of the main challenges to access to energy which is access to finance.
Jedy-Agba noted that developers can access funds as low as five per cent interest rate under the programme
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and implementer, Ahmad Salihijo, said President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP) to combat effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Salihijo disclosed that the solar scheme was part of the package to combat the effect of the pandemic.
