The former Minister of aviation in Nigeria, Fani Kayode has accused the management of Media Trust Limited publishers of Daily Trust of defamation of character.
In a letter signed by his lawyer, Adeola Adesipe, the former Minister enter into a negotiation with the management of Daily Trust for a possible settlement of 6 billion naira.
PUNCH reported that the letter was in response to an article titled, ‘FFK, the Drug Addled Thug in Designer Wears’ dated August 30, 2020.
It was gathered that the writer of the article lambasted Fani Kayode for describing a Daily Trust reporter Eyo Charles as stupid during a Press conference in Calabar.
You will recall that Eyo had asked the former Minister about the identity of persons bankrolling his current tour of southern states.
Gadu, the writer of the article claimed that Fani-Kayode, who attended Cambridge University, was once “a drug addict” and had sought rehabilitation in Ghana, but “till today has not been cured of the habit.”
However, in the letter titled Defamation of the character of Chief Femi Fani-Kayode by Iliyasu Gadu, the former Minister described the article as libellous and demanded an apology from the newspaper, which must be published in other national dailies.
Meanwhile, the newspaper was given 14 days to comply or face legal action.
