Former Leeds United player England defender Norman Hunter has tested positive to coronavirus, he is currently being treated in hospital after testing positive to the virus. The news was confirmed by his former club Leeds United recently. The player by name Norman Hunter is 76 years old.
Norman Hunter played a total of 726 games with Lead United, he stayed 15 years at the Elland Road side and won two league titles with the club. He also played in the 1975 European Cup final which lost to German giant Bayern Munich. He was also part of Sir Alf Ramsey’s England squad for the 1966 World Cup and went on to win 28 caps in total.
Leeds United released a statement saying: “Keep battling Norman, we are all with you.” The statement also reads: “We would like to take this opportunity to remind the public and the media to respect the wishes of Norman and his family and to give them the space they need during this difficult time.”
In his playing days, he formed a strong partnership with Jack Charlton at the back for Leeds, also adding European silverware in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup, an FA Cup and a League Cup to his and the club’s haul. He is the fourth most capped player in Lead United, only Charlton, Billy Bremner and Paul Reaney has played more games than him.
Leeds United is no the only club Hunter played for he also played for Bristol City and Barnsley, before retiring as a player and then took mangerial role where he managed the Tykes along with Rotherham United.
