The IGP gave the directive to the Assistant Inspectors General of Police in the seventeen zonal commands in the thirty-six states of the Federation and the FCT, Abuja.

He directed them to carry out full enforcement of the COVID-19 Health Protection Regulations 2021 signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 26.

Meanwhile, the IGP further advised officers to show tact, compassion, and empathy while carrying out the order.

He emphasised the need for the officers to be firm and professional, polite, civil, and respect citizens’ fundamental rights.

The IGP said the uncertainty and risks engendered by the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic had placed additional responsibilities on the general public.

However, he called on citizens to voluntarily comply with the Regulations’ provisions for the safety of all.
