ElRufai States Why Northern Delegates Picked Tinubu over Osinbajo

Nasir Elrufai, Governor of Kaduna State, recently stated why the Northern Delegates decided to go with the newly-elected Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, over Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in the just concluded party primaries.

Giving the hint, he said the victory at the party’s national convention, particularly that percentage contributed by the APC delegates and governors from the North-West and North-East was as a result that all parties met and resolved to back Jagaban after seeing him as the most “Sellable” of the five Southern aspirants submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari before the actual date.

Elrufai Canvassed Votes for Asiwaju

While President Buhari declined from picking a a favourite aspirant and asked that the decision be left to the party delegate, El-Rufai, on the other hand, said he insisted insisted that Jagaban was the best bet, hence, the Northern stakeholders chose him over Osinbajo, Amaechi and the rest Presidential hopefuls.

According to the Kaduna State Governor, “I can’t say all of us stuck with Bola Tinubu. Not all of us were stuck with Bola Tinubu. In many of our states, the delegates’ votes were divided. And I went to address the Kaduna delegates for the last time before the voting,”

He added that after the voting, some of feedback showed that the Northern Delegates actually contributed immensely to the emergence of Asiwaju.
