Doctors Embark On Indefinite Nationwide Strike

Following the notice that was issued earlier, the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has embarked on a nationwide strike on Monday, September 7.

The union says the strike is to press home its demand which includes a pay rise, better welfare, and provision of adequate facilities for doctors.

Speaking with journalists, NARD President, Aliyu Sokomba stated that medics treating virus cases would join the action this time around adding that here will be no exemptions.

According to Sokomba, workers under the umbrella of NARD have pending arrears of 2014, 2015, 2016, salary shortfalls that were supposed to have been paid over six years ago.

He stated that the industrial action embarked upon by the union is an indefinite strike adding that it would be called off only when the union’s demands were met.

Earlier, Everyevery.ng had reported that the union has threatened to embark on another nationwide strike beginning from Monday, September 7 following the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government on August 17.
