The United Kingdom, UK has become the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer vaccine for widespread use as it has already ordered 40 million doses to vaccinate 20 million people.

According to the Health Secretary in the UK, Matt Hancock, help is on its way with the approval of the Pfizer vaccine.

Also, NHS Chief Executive, Simon Stevens said the health service was preparing for the largest-scale vaccination campaign in the history of the country.

Reacting to the development, the Director-General, World Health Organization, WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus confirmed that the UK has authorized the Pfizer/BionTech COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use and expects to start rolling it out as soon as next week.

However, sources revealed that the Pfizer vaccine is the fastest ever vaccine to go from concept to reality. The vaccine reportedly took 10 months to follow the same developmental steps that normally span a decade.

Experts opined that although vaccination can start, people still need to remain vigilant by sticking with the social distancing rule, wear face masks among other measures to stop the spread.

The Pfizer has been described as a new type of vaccine called an mRNA vaccine that uses a tiny fragment of genetic code from the pandemic virus to teach the body how to fight COVID-19 and build immunity.
