COVID-19: FG Announces Plan To Re-Open More Airports
In what is described as the principle of reciprocity in granting permission to airlines, the Federal government of Nigeria has banned flights from the European nations.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika announced this during the daily briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 on Thursday.
He added that the Federal government will be reciprocating the EU’s decision.
Sirika opined that airlines from the European Union would not be allowed to fly into Nigeria once the International flights resume operations in Nigeria on August 29.
The Minister, who was represented by the Director-General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Captain. Musa Nuhu argued that the decision was taken in the interest of Nigerians.
Also, Hadi Sirika announced that inbound international passengers would be limited to 1,280 as International flights resume operations on August 29.
You will recall that the European Union in June 2020 released a statement listing 54 countries that were not allowed to fly into any of the countries in the region.
Nigeria was included in the list and the EU stated that the decision is part of measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in its region.
