Buhari Describes Kebbi Flooding As Set Back To Boosting Rice Production

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed worry over the Kebbi flooding disaster, which has led to the loss of lives and destruction of thousands of hectares of farmland.

In a tweet on Sunday, President Buhari described the flooding as a major setback to his administration’s efforts to boost local rice production as part of measures to end importation.

He noted that the unfortunate incidence couldn’t have come at a worse time for farmers and other Nigerians who looked forward to a bumper harvest this year to reduce the current astronomical rise in the costs of food items in the markets.

Buhari added that Kebbi State is the focal point of his government’s policy to produce rice locally as part of the administration’s commitment to agricultural revival.

However, he sympathized with the bereaved families and the farmers affected adding that the federal government will work closely with the State Government to bring relief to all victims.
