Some yet to be identified bandits have reportedly abducted several students in Kankara local government area of Katsina state on Friday, December 11, the same day President Muhammadu Buhari visited his hometown, Daura.
Sources revealed that the students were kidnapped from Government Science Secondary School in Katsina.
Also, Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna central senatorial district in a tweet confirmed the abduction of the students on Saturday, a day after the unfortunate incident.
It was gathered that gunmen invaded the school at about 11 pm and launched an attack on the area that lasted for over two hours. At the end of the raid, an unconfirmed number of students and residents were declared missing.
A police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity said the bandits invaded the school on foot and abducted an undisclosed number of students, he added that the armed men shot the school’s gatemen and another officer.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses disclosed that gunmen numbering about 100 stormed the school between 10:00 – 11:00 pm and started shooting sporadically in the hostels forcing many students to run into the bush for help.
However, a yet to be confirmed report indicated that at least 600 out of 800 students are missing from the school after the bandits invaded Kankara town.
