Augsburg will be playing without their head coach in the first Bundesliga game since lockdown, their Matchday 26 game against Wolfsburg will be played without Heiko Herrlich their head coach. Augsburg head coach Heiko Herrlich broke the lockdown rules and so he won’t be allowed to go with his player when they take on Wolfsburg.
The head coach was seen leaving the team hotel to buy toothpaste while he was supposed to remain indoors. Herrlich, whose side face Wolfsburg on Saturday, told a news conference on Thursday that he had visited a shop, breaking league rules.
All the Teams in the German Bundesliga are currently placed in quarantine, which is one of the protocols the league is taking to keep the players safe. According to Herrlich in a statement, he said: “I made a mistake by leaving the hotel.” Speaking at a video news conference earlier, he said: “I have no toothpaste and then I went to a supermarket.”
The 48-year-old Augsburg coach also said, “Even though I have followed all hygiene measures both when leaving the hotel and otherwise, I cannot undo this.” “In this situation, I was not able to act as a role model for my team and the public.” The Augsburg manger added.
“I will therefore be consistent and stand by my mistake. Because of this misconduct, I will not be leading the training [on Friday] and will not be in charge of the team against Wolfsburg on Saturday.”
The club said players and staff are being regularly tested for coronavirus and Herrlich will be able to resume training after two negative test results. Augsburg are currently in the 14th place position in the Bundesliga table and five points above the relegation zone.
