Barcelona had it tough last night as they were sent out of this year’s Copa del Rey competition by Athletic Bilbao. Barcelona had everything under control winning in everything from ball possession to the numbers of shot on target. The Cataluna giant had it tough following the fact that they have not been consistent in the 20219/20 La Liga season.

The game was finally decided in the third minute of stoppage time. Spanish forward Inaki Williams headed the ball past Marc-Andre ter Stegen to give his side the lead. It was a night of surprises as both Barcelona and Real Madrid were knocked out of the Copa del Rey competition. The tournament is now fought by under-dogs as the big names are all out.

For the first time since 2010 the Copa del Rey final will be played without Barcelona or Real Madrid. Real Madrid surprisingly lost to Real Sociedad right in front of their home fans. Barcelona captain Lionel Messi wasted lots of chances in the game.

Fans are now asking questions if is as a result of the case between him and Eric Abidal which he came out to say he is not about. Should Barcelona sack Eric Abidal to put Messi back in form or was he just having a bad day to miss the kind of chances he missed last night?

He had couple of chances but wasted all of them. Lionel Messi had a good late chance when he fired at the legs of Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon. This year’s Copa del Rey tournament is indeed filled with surprises, Sevilla and Villareal lost to second division side Mirandes and Atletico also lost to Cultural Leonesa.

Granada, Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao are the only big names in the tournament presebtly. With the current form of the second division side Mirandes we really think they stand a chance to win the trophy. The next draws will be made later today Friday 7th February 2020.
