Liverpool Suffers Yet Another Champions League Home Defeat

The English Premier League defending champions welcomed the Italian to the return leg of the Uefa Champions League. It was another shocking night for the Reds as they were beaten at Anfield again. Liverpool who celebrated 64 games unbeaten at the Anfield just on Sunday now faced a second home defeat in the Uefa Champions League in two years.

Two quick second-half goals from Josip Ilicic and Robin Gosens were all Atalanta needed to defeat Liverpool 2-0 in their Champions League clash at Anfield Stadium. Ilicic tapped his side ahead in the 60th minute after making a run into the Reds danger zone to connect with Alejandro Gomez’s cross from the left flank. Though Alisson Becker made efforts to save the cross, he was not as fast as the 32-year-old Slovenian in reaching the ball.

In the 64th minute, Gosens made it two for the visitors after Hans Hateboer laid an easy pass for him in the six-yard box to tap into the net. The Serie A outfit again started their build-up to the goal with a cross before a beautifully orchestrated pass in the box that eventually led to the goal.

It was like the Italians came for a revange mission Liverpool beat them 5-0 earlier this month. They ran off with sweet revenge as they beat Liverpool 2-0. Both teams failed to make meaningful moves in the first half as the home team only managed one shot on target towards the end of the opening stanza.

Despite the win Liverpool still maintain their leadership on the Group D table with nine points from four games and a win for them in their next outing will see them advance to the next round.
