Arsenal Suffer first Defeat in Seven Games with 2 Red Cards

Arsenal had two of their players sent off as they suffer their defeat after going seven games unbeaten across all competitions. Arsenal threw away a lead and lost to Wolves to record their first in nine games in the Premier League games.

David Luiz and Leno Receives Red Card as Arsenal Lose to Wolves

The Gunners, who had earlier hit the woodwork twice and also had Saka’s goal disallowed. Arsenal however went ahead when Nicolas Pepe held off two Wolves challenges and curled a fine finish into the net.

But Arsenal were reduced to 10 men when former Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain defender David Luiz brought down Willian Jose, with Ruben Neves equalising with the resulting penalty in first-half injury time.

Joao Moutinho doubled the lead few minutes into the scored half of the game with a brilliant strike from 30 yards. However, the Gunners were then reduced to nine men as goalkeeper Bernd Leno handled the ball outside of his penalty area after racing out trying to deny Adama Traore.

This was Wolves’ first league victory since a 2-1 victory at Molineux against Chelsea on the 15th of December 2020, although they had also won two FA Cup ties – against Crystal Palace. They also won National League North side Chorley since then.

With the win, Wolves move to the 13th place in the English Premier League, but will drop back to 14th if Crystal Palace avoid defeat at Newcastle United in a late game.

Arsenal, who would have gone sixth with victory, but now stay 10th, eight points behind fourth-placed Leicester City in the final Champions League qualification spot.

The last time the two teams met at the Emirates Stadium it ended in favor of Wolves and resulted in to head injury of Raul Jimenez. It also led to the push from football fans pushing for emergency substitution.
