New Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann levelled the scores for France as they drew with Bosnia-Herzegovina in World Cup qualifying. Inter Milan’s striker Edin Dzeko gave the Bosnians the lead in the first half of the game with an excellent, drilled effort from outside the box.
Antoine Griezmann scored with a fortunate ricocheted effort that needed VAR to check to confirm the goal. VAR was consulted, and it was seen that the ball had crossed the line and the goal approved. Chelsea target Jules Kounde was sent off for the host France early in the second half.
The Sevilla defender, who Chelsea unsuccessfully tried to sign during the transfer window that closed on Tuesday, was initially given a yellow card for a reckless tackle on Sead Kolasinac but was upgraded to a red by VAR.
France head coach Didier Deschamps, commenting on the red card, said: “It is obviously harder with ten men. We had some chances, but it is not the result we were looking for. Les Bleus have eight points from four games, four more than second-placed Ukraine, who drew 2-2 in Kazakhstan and hosted France in the next game.
