As reactions continue to trail the attack on Governor Samuel Ortom’s convoy, a Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has thrown a jab at President Muhammadu Buhari over his statement regarding the attack on the Benue governor.

The leader of Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, described President Buhari’s reaction to the attack as crocodile tears. He challenged the President to desist from pretending that he is not aware his Fulani relatives are behind most of the killings in recent time.

While sympathizing with the Benue state Governor, Adebanjo expressed displeasure that the Buhari-led administration failed to apprehend perpetrators of the 2018 Agatu massacre in Benue state.

Adebanjo further stated that the recent warning by the Defence Minister, Bashir Magashi, that Nigerians should defend themselves was a sign of a failed state.

According to him, the myriad of challenges bedevilling the nation appeared to have overwhelmed the President, who should urgently consider stepping down.

The Afenifere leader opined that it was time state governors take full responsibility for security in their states, adding that restructuring remains the only way to avoid disintegration.

Fasoranti, who became Afenifere leader in 2008 had during the group’s monthly meeting in Akure, Ondo State cited old age as the primary reason for his decision to step down from the position.

The Elder statesman, who has been an advocate for the Yoruba interest, has reportedly named the group’s deputy leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, as the acting national leader.
