The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has raised concerns about the possibility of about 45% of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC) being invalid ahead of the 2023 election.
The commission disclosed that as of January 14, 2022, almost half of all registered voters have been said to be Invalid while 1,390,519 Permanent Voter Cards are valid.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman made this disclosure to the media at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday where fears about security challenges in the election were also raised.
Prof. Yakubu said, “We are all concerned about the security challenges. But the environment must be secured for INEC to conduct the election. We are liaising with the security agencies to secure the environment for us to Conduct the 2023 elections.”
